Where we come from
Driven by the desire to assist clients to achieve real business growth, MBE was founded in 2015. MBE is a private company that specialises in entrepreneurial business management and training solutions and is based in Cape Town.
The company is managed by its two directors, Mauritz Bekker and Elke van Jaarsveld.
Drawing on comprehensive entrepreneurial knowledge, skills and experience, MBE is indeed unique and a one of a kind. The company is well equipped to help individuals and businesses to become more entrepreneurial and therefore more profitable.
Our philosophy, mission and vision
Business success is normally built on the following 5 pillars:
- Viable product or service offerings are always developed to solve problems for customers. People fundamentally buy solutions to their problems and not products or services per say. Products and services which are not perceived by the customer to solve a problem will never sell.
- Product and service offerings need to be cheaper and/or better than those offered by competitors.
- All product and service offerings must be delivered at a profit to ensure sustainability.
- An organisational culture that cultivates entrepreneurship must be developed.
- An organisation must have happy, motivated and entrepreneurial minded personnel.
This guides our approach to interventions with customers and our courses.

Mission:
We strive to utilise our knowledge, skills and experience to solve problems for our customers in an optimal manner.
Vision:
Based on an integrated approach, we seek to become the most sought-after entrepreneurial business coaching and executive training organisation in our fields of expertise.
About Mauritz
Mauritz has a Masters degree in Business Leadership, backed by an Honours degree in Agricultural Management. He has also completed various short courses in the fields of business management and planning.
Mauritz Bekker started his career in 1974 at Rembrandt Tobacco Company. To make a greater economic impact, he bought a farm and created his own business consulting organisation three years later. His clients were mostly farmers and small business owners. Due to difficult times in the agricultural industry, Mauritz enrolled for a part time Masters Degree in Business Leadership in 1985. At completion, he went into the corporate world and in 1989 was appointed as a national agricultural marketing manager at Sanlam. Equipped with corporate experience and driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Mauritz co-founded the training company ‘Entrepreneurial Business School’. This venture was then followed by the creation of MBE (PTY) Ltd in 2015.
Over the years, Mauritz has gained extensive practical entrepreneurial business experience across a wide range of aspects. He has lectured at tertiary institutions and spent the last 20 years in the field of practical entrepreneurial ability development research. Mauritz has also started and managed several small businesses, and has experience in consulting and coaching activities.
Furthermore, Mauritz is no stranger to the media. He has written articles on entrepreneurship for several newspapers. He has also participated in entrepreneurial and business management talks on radio and served on panels discussing entrepreneurship and business management on national TV.
Mauritz’s personal philosophy
“It’s never too late to confront the unknown and overcome new challenges in business and life. Success is almost always guaranteed if you have common sense, a willingness to learn, tenacity and patience. New challenges and achievements keep you young and fill up the energy tank as you age.”
As every entrepreneur should do, he still looks for new challenges. At the young age of 69 in 2018, he took up show jumping, attempting this with his horse, an American Saddler named Skye. Skye had never jumped before but with loads of patience, Skye and Mauritz have mastered the art of amateur show jumping!
This did not happen without some sacrifices, which entailed five falls and a fractured ring finger. But this has not slowed them down. They’ve participated in almost a dozen amateur jumping shows to date. They started low at 30-centimetre events and have progressed to achieving a few clear rounds in the 60-centimetre classes, and winning third prize in a time-based jump off. Having already accomplished his 2019 goal, he is now aiming at completing a clear round in an 80-centimetre class.
